Here’s to an Exciting 2022 for Chaos and Warphammer: Updates and Plans Going Forward

Greetings from the warp, my Chaotic fans. With the holiday season behind us and a new year on the way, I figured it was a great time to take stock and update everyone on where Warphammer is and where it is going.

2022 is going to be a big year for Chaos. If the rumors are to be believed, there are a lot of Chaos codices and models headed our way. And that means a lot of great content for you here at Warphammer.

Recap of the Year for Warphammer

2021 was the first full year of Warphammer, and it was an absolute blast. While Daemons and Chaos Space Marines have definitely had some ups and downs competitively as the year has gone, the love fans have for those factions has never changed. I’ve been blown away by how interested people are in reading about playing these factions (and Chaos in general). I can’t wait to keep spreading the good word of Chaos.

2021 was also my first time bringing other strong Chaos players on for interviews. I was really nervous at first, but I ended up actually really enjoying it. At this point I’ve built connections with a lot of well-regarded and well-connected Chaos players throughout the world, and will have many more interviews in the years to come.

Recap of My Year Competitively

It was my first year sticking to one faction competitively all year, and I had an absolute blast playing Chaos Space Marines. Was it a smart year to choose Chaos Space Marines as my competitive faction of choice? Probably not. But codex power is temporary. Waging the Long War is forever.

  • Record at 2 GT Level Events with Chaos Space Marines
    • 3rd place out of 31
    • 13th place out of 39
  • Record at 9 RTT Level Events with Chaos Space Marines
    • 6 1st place finishes
    • 1 3rd place finish, 1 4th place finish, 1 5th place finish

And while we’re at it…

  • Games Played Broken Down by Number of Wounds
    • 37 tournament games played with 1 Wound Noise Marines
    • 0 tournament games played with 2 Wound Noise Marines

Looking back at the year, I’m pretty happy with how I’ve made Chaos Space Marines work. There’s always room to improve as a player… but I certainly wouldn’t mind some points drops if GW would be so kind! Now it just comes down to LVO to determine the final rankings among CSM players. I’m a bit pessimistic about CSM into the current field, but know there are some strong players playing CSM. I don’t even care whether its myself or someone else. I just hope we get at least one strong finish at LVO by a CSM player!

Thanking People Who Supported the Site

I also wanted to give some recognition to the Patrons that have supported the site. Thank you so much to (with last names left out for anonymity) Christian, Gabe, Gino, Greg, Ian, Jeff, Jeremy, Justin, Keith, Kick, Melkor, Mike, O, Paul, Rory, Sau, SB, Veteran, and Whip. You are all amazing, and true champions of the Dark Gods.

I also realized there was an issue with how I set things up for supporters of the website. When a Patron joins the top level (just $10, I want anyone to be able to get support on their Chaos journey), they get a custom list and coaching call as a thank you. But I didn’t have a system set up for any contact besides the initial call, which isn’t fair to people that keep supporting the site for a long time. And I’ve really enjoyed chatting and diving deep into cool Chaos ideas with everyone that has supported the site. So going forward, top level Patrons will have the process repeated every 3 months. This is something I’ll work on setting up in the coming weeks.

Future Ideas

I have no idea how I’ve made it this long and not gotten a logo made. Frankly, my enthusiasm for writing and Chaos far outpaces my enthusiasm for actually doing the boring side of content creation. I would love to get a logo commissioned for Warphammer, and then make some custom objective markers or dice so people can summon the blessings of the Dark Gods while they are playing. I promise I’ll get this done at some point this year.

I also have a few different ideas for giveaways once we get more information about how the Daemons and CSM codices will look. Hang tight and we’ll see what happens as the year goes on.

Final Thoughts

Thank you to everyone who made it through this self-indulgent post. With the first full year of Warphammer behind us, I just felt the readers and supporters were due an update and some things to look forward to. As always, your feedback is sincerely appreciated in comments on the website, emails to me directly at Blesswithfilth@gmail.com, messages through Patreon, or comments in our Discord. The enthusiasm of the readers is what keeps Warphammer going, and I want it to be the best resource for Chaos fans that it can be!

It’s always a great time to be a Chaos fan, and it’s only going to get even better in 2022. As always, stay safe, have fun, and may the Dark Gods bless your rolls.

Note: Excited to get your Chaos army on the tabletop? Me too! I’d love to work with you on making your fun or weird Chaos idea into a competitive list. If you’re interested in supporting the growth of Warphammer and quality 40K writing, feel free to check out Patreon.com/Warphammer and join the team. Additional benefits and coaching are available.

  1. As a new Chaos player without a lot of capitol or really a group to play with, reading Warphammer has absolutely expedited the knowledge curve I’ve had in jumping from “Get Started: Tzeentch Daemons” to an army that feels more streamlined, more my speed, and closer to actually playable. The discord has been unbelievably helpful (if not a bit intimidating for a new player like me), and I eagerly await more updates from Mike at this blog to keep me informed and stoke that new player curiosity in a way that is more productive than poorly designed lists with no cohesion.

I’m extremely excited to see your reviews of the new codex, and how that might change the “competitive list for every chaos space marine legion” from October!

Please keep doing what you’re doing, you’re an inspiration to all who want to see the Corpse King fall!

    1. GN, thank you so much for the kind words! Helping people enjoy the hobby as Chaos players is the motivation for Warphammer, and I wish you the best of luck with your army on the tabletop. See you around the Discord

  2. Hey man, thanks for all the content. I was a new dad at the start of 2020 and I had just started playing once a month during an evening with some other dads near me. Before this I had played a lot of 30k and so your page really helped me use my 3rd legion heresy era force as a 40k army. Keep up the great work!

    1. That’s really cool Ryan, it’s great that you can use your 30K army to wage the Long War in 40K too! Best of luck, and thank you so much for the kind words.

  3. I didn’t even realize you had a patreon! I feel like I was stealing so much good advice! Glad to become a member to support all your great work. Looking forward to join the ranks of chaos this year!

    1. Hey Sean, thank you so much for the support! It honestly means the world to me that people are enjoying the content. I’ll send you a follow up message on Patreon. Here’s to a great year of us all bringing death to the false emperor in 2022!
